This is a Hohonu Community Effort

Ka ʻIke Mau Loa O Ke Kai Hohonu is a hohonu community effort that aims to embrace and perpetuate traditional Hawaiian values. Together, we nurture our keiki, ʻohana, and kaiāulu, safeguarding our vibrant culture for generations to come.

These are the actions we are taking to achieve that.

Keiki Clinics

Our future rests with our keiki. Through our clinics, young ones alongside adults delve into the heart of Hawaiian values—from discipline and unity to humility and honor. Through physical activities and waʻa teachings, we're passing down our legacy, ensuring that our traditions paddle forward.

Maui Waʻa Mental Health Restoration Project

In the wake of community upheaval, we're harnessing the healing power of Hawaiʻi's waters. Our initiative, in partnership with KailuaKanu, crafts waʻa to restore cultural ties and offer solace to the distressed. These waʻa not only symbolize resilience but reconnect us to the ocean's therapeutic embrace.

Upcountry Maui Hui

In response to Maui's devastating fires, we've formed the Upcountry Maui Hui.

Initially, we operated an emergency response and resource hub in Kula, providing essential supplies to residents, including food, water, first aid, propane, toiletries, clothing, pet food, supplements, and more. This location was used to dispatch emergency response units to the affected areas in the community, as well as providing other support services like acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, and mental and emotional health support. For seven months, we partnered with Chef Hui to provide hot meals to displaced and affected residents, all made by local Maui chefs.

Our ongoing efforts are aimed at mitigating the long term negative effects of this disaster, as well as providing resources to those affected. These include fuel load removal, endemic restoration, and community outreach. Our partnership with Chef Hui continues, as we provide produce bags with an abundance of local produce to those in need.
